Fare Thee Well Seniors!

By: Aayushi Jajodia

We bid Adieu to you, dear Cetards..

“I always knew looking back on my tears would bring me laughter, but I never knew looking back on my laughter would make me cry.”

_Cat Stevens

These beautiful lines mirror precisely the emotions of those twenty-two seniors who had perhaps gathered together for the last time, this Wednesday, to witness the farewell from their most beloved club, Cetadel. It is almost impossible for me even to imagine the turmoil that they must have been through, the plethora of feelings, and of memories, both fond, and not so fond that they were thrust upon maybe with. As the afternoon rolled by, and the function continued, emotions ran high, bouts of nostalgia spurted out here and there, and needless to say, by the time the function wrapped up, the “Cetards”, as we like to call ourselves, were left with a heavy heart,  teary eyes and a rare combination of sadness as well as happiness. It was so achingly moving, it had almost had us weeping for the joy and tragedy of it all.

The whole programme was conducted to extend our gratitude to the seniormost members of Cetadel, and to pay to them, their due share of respect for the contribution that they have made towards the club.

The entire function was organised by The Literary Secretary, Mr. Anirban Pati, and the Convener, Ms. Tanuja Pattnaik with co-ordination from all of the members of Cetadel. Also, without the help of Shrimant Sir, the event couldn’t have taken place.

The seniors, who were invited beforehand, started turning up at the allotted time, dressed up in their best. Before the beginning of the function, we prayed silently for 2 minutes to pay our condolences to the departed souls of the two beloved senior members of Cetadel.  The function then began with the cake cutting ceremony.
This was followed by a video, which was the U.S.P. of the function. The video, rather an amalgamation of smaller videos, which was showcased using a projector, brought forward some of the fond memories of the seniors in the most amazing way. After the video got over, the seniors were presented with a memento, with their names written on it, as a souvenir to cherish their association with the club for the rest of their lives.

Also, to bring in a little fun factor, a small game was played,  In which every person had to pick up a chit, containing a “Not so literal” adjective, and had to name one person who was best suited to the title. All of us broke out in riots of laughter as people got associated with funny one-liners and ridiculous tags.
Finally, the function ended when Tanuja Di dedicated a song, expressing her gratitude, to all the seniors, especially Shradha Di, the ex- convener of Cetadel.

Also, a special mention goes to a really heart-touching video, made by Pratikshya Di, showing all the crazy memories and times spent in the club.

The evening did leave us with hollowness in our hearts, which will be very difficult to fill. But as they say, “C’est la vie”, or, such is life. And so, life goes on. Thank you, dear seniors, for all the love and care that you have given to this club. We will never forget you. Fare thee well. Have a successful journey ahead!
