Ganesh Chaturthi celebration @CET

By: Jessica Mohapatra

A very  Happy Birthday To:

The Remover of all obstacles,

The Deva of wisdom,

The God of success,

And the God of New beginnings…

Lord   Ganesha ….(Vighnahartaa (obstacle-destroyer))

Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi  is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha ,this festival was started during the time of the great Marathi warrior Shivaji. Lord Ganesha is the son of goddess Parvati, who is consort of Shiva. Parvati created Ganesha out of sandalwood paste that she used for her bath and breathed life into the figure. She then set him to stand guard at her door while she bathed. Lord Shiva, who had gone out, returned and as Ganesha didn't know him, didn't allow him to enter. Lord Shiva became enraged by this and asked his follower Ganas to teach the child some manners. Ganesha who was very powerful, being born of Parvati, the embodiment of Shakti, defeated Shiva's followers and declared that nobody was allowed to enter while his mother was bathing. The sage of heavens, Narada along with the Saptarishis sensed the growing turmoil and went to appease the boy with no results. Angered, the king of Gods, Indra attacked the boy with his entire heavenly army but even they didn't stand a chance. By then, this issue had become a matter of pride for Parvati and Shiva. Angry Shiva severed the head of the child. Parvati seeing this became enraged. Seeing Parvati in anger Shiva promised that her son will be alive again. The devas searched for the head of dead person facing North, but they found only the head of an  elephant. They brought the head of the elephant and Shiva fixed it on the child's body and brought him back to life. Lord Shiva also declared that from this day the boy would be called Ganesha. This day is marked as Ganesh Chaturthi.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in CET:

Amidst the cloudy Friday Morning ,the  KCHR girls Hostel was Bustling with life.At 8:00 on a holiday ,you do not expect ‘busy’ college students to get up early  and finish all their chores but today everyone was ready and active in fresh new clothes ,and why not today was the birthday of Lord Ganesha ,the God of wisdom and all his devotees (that is us..) would definitely try to appease him this day.The puja in KCHR started late, at 11:15.

Then the puja got over at around 1 pm , after attacking the Prasad (we all were hungry ,as none of us had eaten till pushpanjali) , I and my friends decided to check out all the other pujas in the college (as this was one of those 2 blue moon days where we have the excuse of not touching our books…..So  why leave it??!??).The 3rd years had organized the puja very well.

The Girls Hostel Puja
We first went to Canteen where they were having their own puja, the puja hadn’t started till then,it started later at around 2 pm.

Then we went to the Architecture building ,there were 2 pujas there one in front of the Chemistry department, the statue was surreal, it was made of bamboo, very innovative and very different.

The Architecture branch was having it’s own puja, that part of the college was crowded with students, the architecture students stood true to their name, as what greeted us literally  made us hold back our breath and marvel, the decoration was just exquisite.

When KCHR was  having it's puja ,simultaneously the Boys Hostel too was flooded with activity as they too were having their puja.
